Southwell

Southwell is one of the oldest villages on the island. It more than tripled in size during the 1980's with the building of the new Sweethill estate. There is a real feeling of community in Southwell centring around the Eight Kings public house, which is the only pub in the UK with this name.

	A view of Southwell Business Park. This used to be an Admiralty Research Establishment and one of the biggest employers on the island. Now it houses many small businesses and again provides employment for many local people. Once a year the business park is home to the very popular Portland Steam Fair.
